Praying the Cross on Loved Ones
The other day my son (5 years old) asked me to make a cross and I thought he meant one out of wood or something. He said, “No make a cross on my head.” He wanted me to make the sign of the cross on his forehead and pray for him. I was like wow, where did that come from?
I guess it started years ago when I attended ManUpPhilly.com and a speaker recommended praying the sign of the cross on your child’s forehead. At first I did, but when my daughter expressed resistance to doing a nightly prayer, I decided why not. So one night I started praying over my children by making a simple cross on my children’s forehead and praying “In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”.
Today both of my children want me to pray over them by making the sign. My daughter likes to make the sign of the cross on my forehead before I leave her room. She now sees that it is good to share prayers in return.
Again children continue to teach adults what it means to pray.
God Bless,
In the Name of the Father,
the Son,
and the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
