Church may be Boring but it is something we do as a Family
From the mouth of Babes: Church may be boring sometimes, but it is something we do as a Family. My wife over heard my 6 year old talking to her friend about going to Church on Sundays. Her friends mentioned how boring Church was, but my daughter responded:
Church may be boring sometimes, but it is something we do as a Family.
That is something that is not taught but felt. In this day of traveling work, long commutes, iphones, ipads, tablets, TV, sports and constant activity when does the family have time to spend quite time together? The original Christian Churches were assembled by families in their houses, and they attended Mass as a family. Returning to the core practice of attending Mass as a family is something so basic, that we as a adults don’t notice the significance in our fast pace lives. It is not really amazing that young children pick up on the simple actions and actually like it.
Everyone is a little squished for the photo opt.
My wife and I volunteer for the Baptism class and I’m always saying how our children teach us alot about being Catholic and they love doing things together as a family.
This reminds me of a trip I took with a friend of mine many years ago to the air and space museum in DC. The teenage daughter didn’t seem to be having fun and was kind of distant during the trip. I figured she was bored and not enjoying the trip. Well too my surprise she told all her family how much fun she had and how neat it was. I learned a lot that day. Kids might be showing their boredom in the moment, but inside they are happy and do appreciate the things we do as adults for our families.
I hope everyone gets the chance to go to Church together as a family. I now know the kids do appreciate the effort being made by everyone to be together. Jesus brings us together in so many ways.
Introduction Prayer
A good prayer for preparing one’s self for more prayer and reflections.
O God, come to my assistance.
O Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.
Amen.
