What is a 3 Minute Prayer in an 8 hour day? It is 0.625% of our time. I was thinking about daily prayer while in mass today. So I timed a Hail Mary and an Our Father. The Hail Mary was about 20 seconds and the Our Father about 30 seconds. That leaves like 2 minutes to pray for the people we see on TV, in our streets, in our own homes and in our families that could use a prayer every now and then.

So here is a Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen

That was 20 seconds.

And here is an Our Father:

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

And there is 30 seconds.

Some will say I’m crazy for putting a timer on prayer, but how many times have we forgotten to pray because we are too busy? Are we really too busy for 0.625% of our 8 hour day? I think God would rather us pray for others even if it is timed. Two minutes can result in some good solid thoughts and prayers.
